Why a positive mindset is so important
Some new figures came out today from Rightmove.co.uk, the house sales website. They claim house prices have dropped by 3.2% in the last month. This is only worth worrying about if you are a natural worrier. The rest of us will know it is all about the Home Information Packs (HIPs) and the rush to complete sales before the extra cost of the HIPs became compulsory.
The next few months, as always, will see every economic indicator twisted by various organisations for their own ends. The biggest problem for small businesses and especially sole traders is there isn’t enough opportunity to debate these types of issues and get another viewpoint aired. Without a positive mindset, this can cause an air of depression within the business.
Regardless of how the economy is doing on a wider basis, many small businesses can carry on being successful because they are working in niche areas. There are also many businesses which are naturally tuned to work well within a recessional economic environment. This could include repairs and servicing, budget and discounting and general cost cutting services.
So, think big, think realistically but think positively. Christmas is coming, 2008 is on its way. Make sure you are ready to take it all in your stride!
As the Chinese say, Opportunity comes disguised as hard work!
