A £12m recycling centre is to open on Deeside, Flintshire, creating 50 jobs.

Closed Loop Recycling said its new plant will recycle 50,000 tonnes of plastic milk, water and soft drinks bottles each year.

The company, which has another plant in London, said it showed the UK was undergoing a “recycling revolution”.

Funding has been provided by private investors and the Welsh Assembly Government’s new Single Investment Fund.

Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said: “The company’s state-of the-art facility at Deeside will make a major contribution to our ability to recycle plastic, which saves natural resources, reduces carbon and delivers real action on climate change.”

The company said brands including Coca Cola Enterprise had already committed to buying recycled plastic from north Wales.

Closed Loop Recycling’s managing director, Chris Dow, said: “This plant will allow us to make a real impact to plastic recycling in north Wales and north west England and we are delighted to have such positive support from the Welsh Assembly Government.”

He added: “We believe we are pioneering the future in packaging solutions.”

The plant is due to open in October 2009.
