Web Download Problems show a Broadband Divide
In the ‘old days’, websites had to be very light in data as everyone had a dial up connection and people’s patients was very short. Pages which took longer than (pick any number while sounding knowledgable!) seconds would not be read as visitors went elsewhere.
With the coming of broadband, and the ability for people to download a Mb in a few seconds, website design got bloated! Now a new study finds that a large proportion of the most popular blogs on the web are now well over half a megabyte in size – and download times are expanding.
The full story is here, but what isn’t explained in the article is why, if the size of the page is such an issue, are these highlighted sites still in the Top 100 sites visited on the internet? The logical answer would be that these was a link between the site of your site, and the number of visitors you had. Anyone think this may be a non story?
