What is all the talk about Twitter?
2
January 19th, 2009Case Studies, Deeside, Event, FlintshireThe nature of the Internet has changed over the past few years from being static to being active. Websites are no longer just a brochure, they tell you what is happening – and there is a feedback happening.
Twitter is described as a micro blogging platform – which means less than nothing to most people! Think of it as sending a text to everyone in the world, but nobody in particular, via the Internet. The results of which are in one of three camps.
1. Every motion and movement about an individual’s life . eg. I am cooking an egg to settle a pain in my internal organs!
2. Some people use it to comment on life when it goes wrong. e.g. the damn train was late and its started to rain.
3. Some people use it to announce their latest special offers. e.g. Today is the first day of our 50% sale. Visit myonlinestore.com
To give you an idea of what Twitter looks like, we have opened an account (like most things in Web 2.0, its free for the basics!)

On the 19th of February, we will be running a seminar on Social Media 3.0 – which is really tools and gadgets like these, and discussing if it really is a good idea.

The first photo of the plane in the Hudson that was released to the world was on Twitter by a passenger on one of the ferries coming to the rescue. Not a professional news agency photograph nor a reporter – just a guy with an iphone or similar.
I don’t profess to fully understand twitter and in particular its value for promoting business – but it has potential – see the last para of http://www.tourismkeys.ca/blog/tag/twitter/ and http://www.commoncraft.com/twitter for a video about twitter.
