Look what is on Flintshire’s doorstep!
Chester could be turned into one of Europe’s most desired destinations thanks to a £1.5 billion regeneration plan that is to be implemented over the next ten years.
According to the Liverpool Daily Press, while the £460 million Northgate Development has already been given the go-ahead for 2012 – providing new retail outlets, restaurants and community facilities – a number of other projects have also been proposed for the walled city.
These include a £225 million plan to build a Heart of Africa biodome at Chester Zoo that would eclipse the Eden project and would allow visitors to see the habitats of animals including rhinos and lizards.
Meanwhile, £10 million is also being spent on updating the city’s infrastructure, including its railway station.
Professor Phil Harris from the University of Chester said that the northwestern city is popular because people are looking for travel destinations that offer them plenty to do.
“Chester races and a number of other events are helping the hospitality, tourism and events businesses to hold up quite well,” he commented.
A poll of Daily Mail readers recently saw Chester voted as Best Day Out in the northwest, according to the Chester Daily Leader.
