Where do Your Website Visitors Come From?
You might have spotted the new tool on the right hand side of this page – our new visitor tool from FeedJit. It really is an eyeopener to realise that you are not just being read by people in the local area. It is also a better indicator of some of the problems of the internet.
When you look at your stats, you will spot that you get x number of hits, and y number of pages read. If you are being honest with yourself, you will also spot the number of unique visitors.
The only real number which is relevant is the unique visitor. This is the number of unique IP addresses that have asked for your webpages. Using our new tool, we now know what pages people are finding, reading and where they are based. The number of people reading this who are not based in Flintshire is an indicator that local websites might not be such a good idea!
As we continually state, the Internet is a very raw tool, and we still learning how to use it. If you think that when the printing press was invented, it took 50 years before someone came up with the idea of the novel. We are going through the same situation with the internet.
If you would like to use the FeedJit tool, all you need to do is to copy and paste their code into your webpage and let their Javascript do everything else. Its a very easy way of really learning something about your site!
Within the next few days we will have a report on another tool we are playing with called ClickTale. It is an amazing little gadget, but before we say to much, we really need to check that it is as good as we initially think – Watch this space!
